The ninty-first installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

Name: Edward Quibal

Hometown: Lemoore, CA

School Name: Lemoore High School

Section: Trombone

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
I first heard about it when Yamaha sent out a tweet about it a week before the application deadline. I debated at first whether I should go for it since I had only a week to learn audition materials. But I went for it regardless because to be in the Rose Parade was like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me; especially since I come from a small town where chances like these are next to impossible, so I knew I couldn’t pass it up!

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m excited to be able to work with other people across the states and also with top-notch brass instructors during the event, especially being able to work with Carolina Crown’s Matt Harloff and Michael Klesch. It’s a chance I probably won’t ever get!

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
Pride – take pride in EVERYTHING you do, especially if you do it with other people, then it looks even cooler!
Diligence – strive to be as close to perfect as possible and make everything that you do the best quality it can be.
Respect – respect other people the way they would want to respect you and ALWAYS respect your peers.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
AP classes

What’s your favorite book?
The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
First Suite in E flat – Gustav Holst

Favorite movie?
Despicable Me 1 & 2, Kingsman

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Halo-Halo

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I currently don’t have any idea on what to major or study in college so far, but I’m planning to stay with my mom and step-dad in LA for a few years after high school!

Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
I have actually never participated or taken part in any MFA/BOA event, so it’s very exciting for this one to be the first.

Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
My goal is to march with the Blue Devils because they’ve been like a dream corps of mine to march since my freshmen year, when I was introduced to DCI for the first time by four seniors that had come back from their summer tour marching with Blue Devils B.
