The sevnty-eighth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
I heard about the Honor Band at the 2015 Music for All Summer Symposium. I thought about it, but wasn’t sure, I talked to my director and he told me I should go for it. I figured, why not? it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. He helped me write my audition piece and then helped me record it. I was super nervous through it, but could not be happier that I decided to audition.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I am just excited for the entire experience overall. I don’t think I can pick one thing that I am most excited for. The entire experience is going to be so amazing, I can’t wait to meet all of the members and create memories that I will remember forever.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
Three things I have learned from band are;
1.) A quote from my band director, “To be early is on time, and to be on time is late.”
2.) Rule #1 (Don’t Suck)
3.) You just have to go after everything, you can’t be scared or you will catch your flag with your face.

Most memorable moment in band?
My most memorable moment in band is the end of every band camp. Our senior hug line on Friday of band camp gets harder every year. This years was by far the hardest because I have been marching with most of them for 5 years now and my brother is a senior and it was my last year marching with him. Although, I think next year is going to be the hardest…since it will be my last one.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
Other than Marching Band, I am involved in Winter Guard, Show Choir, Concert Choir, Swimming, and Track.

What’s your favorite book?
My favorite book is every one in the Harry Potter series.

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
My favorite piece of music is our winter guard show from last year, it’s called “A Hymnsong of Philip Bliss”.

Favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Big Hero 6.

Favorite ice cream flavor?
My favorite ice cream flavor is Mint Chocolate Chip.

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
My current plan after high school is to go to college. My number one choice would be Indiana State for a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish.

Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
I have gone to the Music for All Summer Symposium the past two years and plan on going next year as well. My band also performs at the BOA Indianapolis Super Regional every other year.

Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I have been told that I have an unusual job for a student my age-I work at a funeral home.
