The ninth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!
Name: Collyn Taylor
Hometown: Hernando, MS
School Name: Hernando High School
Section: Color Guard
What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
My guard instructor and dance teacher told me about the band. Once I looked in to it I realized how amazing would be to be a part of this group!
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I can’t wait to meet new people from across the country and learn from new people!
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
I have learned how to be a leader and example for others, how to work together as a team to achieve a goal, and I have learned to never give up on your goal no matter how hard it may be.
Most memorable moment in band?
My school was always the smallest band in 6a and we always were known as the country school from Hernando. My sophomore year WE worked our butts off to be amazing and that year we won the 6a state championship. I have never felt so accomplished before! It was the first time I really felt like I worked hard enough to achieve my goal.
Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I don’t really do much of anything else in school because band takes up so much of my time. However, outside of school I am involved in dance and theater.
What’s your favorite book?
I am a huge fan of the Hunger Games series.
What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
If we are talking about band music then Russian Christmas Music, but my favorite song to listen to is definitely Hallelujah.
Favorite movie?
Titanic or Pearl Harbor
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Cookies and cream
What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I do not know where I’m going to school yet, but I do know that I want to major in musical theater.
Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I am the youngest of four girls and I am very small for my age. So growing up I tried to stay out of their shadows. Even though we are all talented in our own ways, I never wanted to be overlooked. Now I feel like I have made a name for my self and I’m bigger than I’ve ever been. Even if I’m only 18 years old and 5’2
