The eighty-fourth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
I wanted to be apart of this band to learn more things about my instrument and I also can’t wait to be able to work with all of these talented people around the country!

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m most excited for the parade. I just love the feeling of performing because all the hard work that is put into that final moment.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
I’ve learned to be more confident in myself! Ever since I’ve joined jazz, I’m not afraid to solo or being judged. Another thing I learned are leadership skills, I was the Publicist this past season and next year I’ll be Vice President. It has helped me get to know everyone and know how to talk to people. Lastly is friendship; these people in band will be my lifelong friends. They’re always there and we always joke around all the time.

Most memorable moment in band?
My freshman year, we were at our last competition at Western Alamance High School. We were waiting for the last award, which was the Eddie Harris Award, the most prestigious award of the day. I had my entire band around me and after the son gave a speech they called our school’s name. It was the best moment of my entire life! With that our band director broke his ankle the day before, we dedicated our performance to him and won that award without him there. Needless to say he was the happiest man ever that Monday!

I’m in Drama Club, Rotary Interact Club, Young Life and Tech Crew.
