The twenty-ninth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
I decided to apply to be a part of the band because no one in my band has ever tried out for something big like this. I also wanted to take my music outside of Illinois and march in a big parade. It looked like it would be a fun experience so I said why not, and tried out!

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I am most excited about meeting so many new people and I am also excited to march down Colorado Boulevard in the Rose Parade.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
Being in band I have learned great leadership.  Being a flute section leader, you have to take charge and teach everyone how to do things the right way. Trust is another thing that I have learned because if you’re marching backwards, you have to trust that the person behind you won’t run into you! Lastly, I have learned that no matter how frustrated you will be during all those practices, it will pay off during your performance, knowing that you did something right.

Most memorable moment in band?
My most memorable moment in band is when we went to Disney World my freshmen year. We got to march in the Magic Kingdom parade and it was so much fun. Even though it was over 90 degrees when we were marching in our dark colored uniforms, the experience was unforgettable.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
At school, I am in the pit orchestra for the fall musicals and I play on our Glenwood Girls Golf team. Outside of school I am in flute and woodwind choir, where I also play the Alto and Bass Flute.

What’s your favorite book?
To Kill a Mockingbird

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
Flight of the Bumblebee, but who doesn’t like that song??

Favorite movie?
Titanic

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Scooperman!!

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
After I graduate high school, my dream is to make it into Juilliard or another music conservatory like Manhattan school of music. I plan on majoring in music performance and becoming a flute soloist or to perform with a famous orchestra.
