The seventy-third installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!
Name: Matthew Chauvin
Hometown: Metairie, LA
School Name: Holy Cross School
Section: Mellophone
What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
A few of my band mates went to the last Tournament of Roses Parade and they sang praises about it, so I thought it would be fun to go and meet new people, and participate in a once in a lifetime event.
What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m excited to march in the parade because it would be different from The Mardi Gras parades I march in every year.
What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
Leadership, discipline, and that it’s easy to make friends with people that can relate to you.
Most memorable moment in band?
Mardi Gras parades are my favorite time of year because it is a chance for us to enjoy ourselves, while playing and marching.
Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I am in quiz bowl, Spanish club, and peer ministry.
What’s your favorite book?
Hard choice, but I’d have to say Band of Brothers.
What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
I’ve listened to so much music and like so many different kinds that it would be impossible to pick a favorite.
Favorite movie?
Das Boot
Favorite ice cream flavor?
Cookies and Cream
What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I’m going to attend LSU and major in Mechanical Engineering and minor in Music.
Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
No, this would be my first one.
Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I’m very old fashioned because I’m a big fan of classic rock, and even have vinyls and a phonograph. I also like to learn about history.
