Kathy Pitts, CPA

Director

Chief Accounting Officer – GEO Foundation

Kathy is a certified public accountant. She began her career in accounting by working for major corporations such as Shell Oil, General Motors, and Anthem. While with these companies, Kathy managed accounting and project teams, process improvement plans, and acquisition consolidation plans. Later, Pitts worked in accounting firms, applying the strengths built in her previous work at these large corporations to provide management support and process improvement plans for her clients. This is where Kathy found her passion for non-profit management and joined her client, GEO Foundation, on a full-time basis.

GEO’s mission is to beat poverty. GEO opens and supports quality public charter schools in highly impoverished areas of the country. By using a unique K-14 (early college) model and a high school dropout recovery model, GEO is able to drive significant academic improvement and graduation rates. For GEO, Kathy serves as Chief Accounting Officer. In this capacity she manages the accounting and finance team in providing all financial, grant management, and auditing functions for the schools and the Foundation.

Kathy is a lifelong lover of music. Kathy grew up in Greenwood, IN and had the privilege of serving as a music student, under Herman Knoll during his tenure there. She credits her work ethic, discipline, and drive to the lessons learned at that early age. Her love of music (and clarinet!) has carried to her daughter, who marched for and attended Lawrence Township schools, her niece, who marched with the Greenwood Woodmen, and now, to her great niece marching in Grand Junction, CO.

Kathy resides on the north side of Indianapolis with her husband, attorney Rick Pitts, and is a graduate of Butler University. She is an avid Butler Bulldogs fan!
