The thirty-sixth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

School Name: Lehman High School

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
One of my Band Directors, Johnie Green, had participated when he was in high school and said that it was fun and a great experience.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
Meeting people from around the United States coming to march together. Also getting to work with different people and gaining more experience.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
1. How “to be early is to be on time, and to be on time is to be late and to be late is to be left behind.” Also attendance to everything always matters, even if you aren’t doing anything.

2. How to be social. I came into band not having a single friend. Now I am Band President and I am able to make friends with almost anyone. Also my directors call me a social butterfly.

3. Practice makes perfect. I am in wind ensemble and I got in by practicing.

Most memorable moment in band?
When I was a freshman we were a 4A high school. I was one of the three freshman to make Wind Ensemble. I also made 3rd chair, which was cool and scary because I didn’t know anyone. Anyways, marching season starts first, and we were at UIL Regional. Which as a freshman I had no idea what that meant. The directors told us we made it to area, and everyone was screaming like “Yeah! We did it!!!” Then at area we made finals. Once again as a freshman I had no idea what that meant. Everyone was screaming their heads off, I went along because I didn’t want to seem lame. I didn’t see the significance until year after year when my director would say, “Back in 2013 we made history making UIL Area Finals.” That has to be my most memorable moment because I was apart of the last generation to make Area Finals.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I am the parliamentarian in FFA (Future Farmers of America). I am in Student Council and next semester I am going to do theater.

What’s your favorite book?
Anne Frank Diary-I am fascinated with history.

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
I am diverse when it comes to music. I have many songs I like and love. I seriously can’t choose just one. Danzon No. 2, Nocturne in Eb Major, Jupiter by Gustav Holst, An American in Paris, and my last piece Prelude, Sicilno & Rondo: Rondo. My favorite type of music is classical.

Favorite movie?
I am a movie master mind. My favorite animation is Moana and my favorite chick flick/ comedy is 50 First Dates, and my favorite action movie is Batman Begins

Favorite ice cream flavor?
I’m a plain jane. I like Vanilla.

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I am a senior, so after next semester I hope to go to college undeclared for the first two years to get my basics done. Hopefully after I get my basics done, I will choose my major.

Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
2013 BOA Regionals in Austin, TX
2013-2016 BOA Super Regionals San Antonio, TX

Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I am a social butterfly. I don’t wait for people to introduce themselves to me. I will go up to them and introduce myself first. I am not shy and I have a humorous personality. I am quite friendly!
