The ninetieth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

Name: Alexus Huff

Hometown: Knoxville, TN

School Name: Farragut High School

Section: Color Guard

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
It first started at the Music for All Summer Symposium a few years ago. They announced there was going to be a Band of America marching band for the Rose Bowl parade. I was beyond excited! I called my mom asking if I could do it. I started fundraising and working so I could march with people who have a deep passion for band and Color Guard like I do.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I am most excited to see all the happy and excited faces in the crowd as I march down the street with my new band family.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
I have learned so much from being involved in band since sixth grade, but I think the most important things I’ve learned are team work, leadership, and respect.

Most memorable moment in band?
The most memorable moments are anytime you perform with your best friends. Each performance is like you are giving your all and showing how much hard work and love you put into your shows and program.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I am also involved with our Leadership Team and I am in peer tutoring, which involves helping and spending time with the sweetest special needs students at our school. I also am involved in Advanced Female Choir and Advanced painting.

What’s your favorite book?
I have so many favorite books, but it would probably be “The Great Gatsby.” I love the “Roaring ’20’s” and how it showed how love can make a person act. I also love the way Gatsby spoke so gently and properly.

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
I listen to so many different kinds of music, but one of my favorite songs would have to be Coming Over by Dillon Francis & Kygo or any Ed Sheeran songs!!

Favorite movie?
Patch Adams!

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Cookie dough!!

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I want to become an Industrial Exologist and discover ways to preserve out planet and natural resources. I don’t want to make a change, I want to BE the change!

Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
I have participated in the Music For All Summer Symposium for three years now and this year was my band’s first year participating in a BOA competition.

Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I have been on the high school Color Guard since eighth grade. I also have modeled since I was five, I’ve been dancing for 10 years, and I also assist with teaching dance and Color Guard.
