The eightieth installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
When I went to Music For All’s Summer Symposium for the first time, they had people explaining what it was, and I really wanted to go for it. Sadly I missed audition times for it the first time. However, when I heard that they extended the deadlines, I knew I had to go for it.

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
The part of the trip I am most looking forward to would have to be just being in California. To have an opportunity to be on that side of the country and to tour some of the most famous places in California.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
Persistence would have to be one. Always push and never give up for what you want.
Leadership would have to be another. At my high school, I am the Head Drum Major and I have learned that respect goes a long way with everyone. Stepping down from your position to understand what the other person feels I think also requires leadership.
Lastly, I have learned optimism. Always have a positive outlook on things, even if they were not the best. Know that if you gave 110%, then that’s all that matters.

Most memorable moment in band?
The most memorable moment in band would have to be after our last competition my freshman year of high school. Our show was Latin moods. We received second that day and knowing we did that was the most amazing feeling ever.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I have played in pit for the last two years for musical and this year I auditioned for a lead role in this year’s musical Grease.
