The eighty-third installment of a new series on the blog that we will be posting throughout the month of December. As some of you are aware, Music for All will be taking an Honor Band to the 2017 Rose Parade. Our members were selected by audition for the ensemble and come from all across the United States. We are looking forward to coming together for the first time as a band at the end of December and we hope this series will allow us all to get to know some (hopefully most!) of the members of this awesome ensemble!

Name: Kyle Roberts

Hometown: Beebe, AR

School Name: Beebe High School

Section: Trombone

What made you decide to apply to be a part of the band?
My band director told me about this opportunity, and after reading about it I decided I had to audition for the band!

What part of the trip are you most excited about?
I’m excited about marching in the parade, but I am most excited about getting to meet new people and make friends from all over the United States.

What are three things you’ve learned from being involved in band?
I’ve learned what it means to stay committed to something, if you miss a rehearsal or a performance the whole band suffers. Being section leader since sophomore year and being band vice president this year has taught me how to be a leader; and it has how to be patient with people that are struggling because some things are more difficult for some people, while it may be easier for others.

Most memorable moment in band?
Sophomore year my high school band went to Disney World to compete in a concert competition and we won, bringing home the Golden Mickey for the second time in my school’s history! Last year I was also the first person from my school to make both Arkansas All-State Symphonic Band and Arkansas All-State Jazz Band.

Besides band, what are you involved in at school?
I am involved in Arkansas Symphony Youth Orchestra, and a local college’s band and trombone studio. I am also involved in National Honor Society, a trapshooting team, Spanish Club, and Band Council.

What’s your favorite book?
I can’t really say I have a favorite book, but I enjoy reading books more when I don’t have to read them for school.

What’s your favorite song or piece of music?
First Suite in Eb by Gustav Holst

Favorite movie?
I don’t really have a favorite, but anything scary or funny.

Favorite ice cream flavor?
Neapolitan

What’s your current plan for what you want to do after graduating high school?
I plan to attend Arkansas Tech University or the University of Central Arkansas to major in Instrumental Music eEducation.

Have you participated in MFA/BOA events before? Which ones?
No

Tell us something interesting/unique about you:
I am an Eagle Scout and besides trombone I play guitar, piano, and drums. I also enjoy spending time with friends even though I can be shy/quiet at first.
